    About Nepal :
Wedged between the high wall of the Himalayas and the steamy jungles of the Indian plains, Nepal is a land of snow peaks and Sherpas, yaks and yetis, monasteries and mantras.
    History of Nepal :
Nepal is a country that has a glorious history. The Gopalas and Mahishapalas are believed to have been the earliest rulers with their capital at Matatritha, the south-west corner of the Kathmandu Valley. The Mallas, in their 550 year rule, built numerous temples and magnificent palaces with picturesque squares. It was also during their rule religious festivals were introduced, literature, art and music were encouraged and society and the cities became well organized. After the death of Yaksha Malla, the valley was divided into three kingdoms : Patan (Lalitpur), Kathmandu (Kantipur) and Bhaktapur (Bhadgaon). Around this time, the Nepal that we know today was divided into about 46 independent principalities. One among these was the kingdom of Gorkha with a Shah ruler.
On May, 2008, the newly elected Constituent Assembly declared Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic, abolishing the 240 year-old monarchy. Nepal today has a Prime Minister heading the Government and President as Head of State.
    Geography of Nepal :
Nepal is a landlocked country in Southern Asia, between Tibet autonomous region of China and India. The country can be divided into three main geographical regions : Mid Hill Regions, Himalayan Region and Terai Region. The Highest point in the country is Mt. Everest (8848 m) while the lowest point is in the Terai plains of Kechana Kalan in Jhapa(60m).
The Himalayas (above 3000m) comprises mountains, temperate forest and alpine pastures. Eight of the 14 eight-thousanders peak of the world lie in Nepal : Mt. Everest or Sangarmatha (8848m), Kanchenjunga( 8586m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu(8463m), Cho Oyu(8201m), Dhaulagiri (8186m), Manaslu (8163m) and Annapurna (8091m). The inner Himalayan valley (above 3600 m) such as Mustang and Dolpa are cold deserts sharing topographical characteristics with the Tibetan plateau. Nepal holds the so called 'waters towers of South Asia' with its 6000 rivers originating in the Himalayas. Medium sized rivers like Babai, Bhagmati, Kankai, West Rapti, Kamla and Mechi originate in the Midlands and Mahabharat Range.
    People in Nepal :
The population of Nepal according to a recent survey was recorded to be about 26.62 million. The population comprises of about 101 ethnic speaking over 92 languages. The distinction in caste and ethnicity is understood more easily with a view of customary layout of the population. Though there exists numerous dialects, the language of unification is the national language, Nepali. English is spoken by many in Government and business offices. It is the mode of education in most private schools of Kathmandu and some other cities.
    How to Reach :
    By Air:
The Tribhuvan International Airport is located in Kathmandu, just beyond the outer ring road. Not all the nations in the world have direct flights from and to Nepal. A very few places like Hong Kong, Delhi, Bangkok, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Dubai, Bangalore and Mumbai are easily accessible from Nepal.
But the service and the routes are improving with every passing day, so it is advised to check the updated routes before planning. It is also suggested that one should reach the respective airport at least 3 hours before check-in as the service desks for Nepal are very few in number and the service is not very quick.
    By Train :
Neither is the train service reasonably great in Nepal, nor are they advised. There is only one cargo train between Nepal and India but the slow speed and umpteen stoppages kill all the thrill.
    By Road :
By road, there are 5 entry points from India and one entry point from Tibet. From Tibet, Kodari is the gateway to Nepal, and is open for all the tourists.
From India, the entries are : The Sunauli-Bhairawa border(Varanasi), the Raxaul-Birganj border (Patna), and Siliguri-Kakarbhitta (Darjeeling),The Banbassa-Mahendrenagar border near Delhi. The bahraich-Nepalganj border near Lucknow which is easily accessible via Delhi by train or by air.
